Part 1: I think that Greg Bear intended for science fiction and action readers to pick up this book. It is somewhat futeristic (not insanely) and has intence action scenes throughout.
Part 2: Song Title: Power, By Kanye West. The lyrics "No one man to have all that POWER" relate to Mariposa's characters being superhuman and intelegent. This song releates alot to Mariposa, and probably it's readers. Heres a link to the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L53gjP-TtGE&ob=av3e
Cool choice. That's not the first one that would come immediately to mind, but I think it fits.
